Lookie who I saw...

on the corner outside his restaurant. MALARKEY!(If you don't know, Brian Malarkey was a contestant on Top Chef and is the executive chef at Oceanaire in Gaslamp, San Diego aka - in my 'hood.) Thoughts:

  • He's taller and hunkier than he came across on tv. I mean - hello, big boy!
  • Smoker. Ew. (Why do so many chefs smoke? I would think it would kill your tongue.)
  • My gay-dar didn't go off like it did watching him on tv.
  • He was standing next to a cooler the size of which might lead to its use for transporting large fish or a dead body.
We really liked Oceanaire in DC so I imagine we'll head down to the SD one in short order.

Two birds, one stone

Happy Father's Day, Dahdoo and Barry!

(We finally have our wedding pictures - many more to come because, well, I'm an egomanic and it's my blog. Hee.)
Daddy, you look absolutely hunky in a tux. I suggest it for your casual-wear.

You were very calm. I was practically dragging you up that aisle!

This is my adorable Father-in-law, Barry. He's totally awesome. He used to go see the Beatles at the Cavern way before they were famous. And I love the story of when he hung out with Coldplay. Seriously, I have the best in-laws.

Woo!

I got my promotion!! Woot!

In addition to the prestige (yes! yes! yes!) it came with the biggest raise of my life. Just in time for us to take to the mortgage broker Friday evening!

Cross your fingers for us - we're putting a hold on our townhouse Monday or Tuesday. Let's hope no one puts a hold on it in the next 48 hours or we're in a whole lotta trouble!

Where's the wine?

So I went to my first Junior League meet and greet last night. I'm pretty sure I'm going to join the provisional class in August. I wasn't quite sure I was ready for the JL - it reminds me SO much of sorority life. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely 100% glad that I joined a sorority in college (met my BF that way!) but it's hard to describe my reluctance. I guess it boils down to I get scared around new people. Sure I can blag my way through a cocktail party. But will I like any of these women? Time will tell. I definitely met some fun girls at the MeG. And let me tell you - that house was filled with the best wardrobe I've seen in forever. Designer bags everywhere. Premium denim on everyone. Sweaters that look plain (it was chilly - in the low 60s) but when you got up close you knew that they were $400 and up at Saks. I've definitely got to step up the clothing at the next meeting. (For the record, I was in a strapless navy nautical print J.Crew dress, navy cardigan, pearls, and strappy bronze flats.)

So fess up - who's in the Junior League? Do you like it?

Tag, you're it

The lovely EuropaFox tagged me:

What were you doing ten years ago?
In June of '98 I was on Martha's Vineyard with my friends from boarding school. I was also having severe anxiety at the thought of leaving boarding school for college. It's hard to go from a place where you literally know EVERYONE (all 135 students) to a place where I had classes with 300 strangers! People laugh that I joined a sorority but our houses were the same size as my boarding school (120ish members) so I felt right at home.

5 things on my to do list today
1. Practice Guitar Hero in secret while DH is at a Padres game. (He wonders why I beat him every time we play even though he's played guitar for 20 years. Mystery solved, no?)
2. Order hardwood flooring samples for our new place (if we get it - cross your fingers!)
3. Write a really nasty email to BBB because they have had a piece of our wedding silver on back order for TEN months. And they don't even update me - I have to keep calling.
4. Finish my French-themed hand towel that I've been embroidering.
5. Iron about 30 work shirts while watching stuff I've DVRed.

3. Snacks you enjoy
Yogurt-covered pretzles, hummas and pita chips, frozen banana pieces, peanut butter-filled pretzels (TJ also make chocolate covered ones that are TO DIE FOR), and dehydrated pineapple.

4.Places you have lived
Hawaii, DC, southern Virginia (middle of nowhere - take a left), northern Virginia, New Hampshire, Indiana, Tennessee, California, and Northern Ireland (Belfast).

5.Five things you would do if you were a billionaire
1. Quit work immediately.
2. Call my Dahdoo and tell him he's retiring - now.
3. Endow the Elliot and DH charitable foundation. (First thing on the agenda - funding the Elliot's Parents chair of engineering at the family alma mater.)
4. Call our lawyer, our realtor, and our money manager.
5. Walk into Design within Reach and tell them to send one of everything.

I like how sweet and simple is this meme. I tag anyone who wants to do it!

The last bit of shopping for a while

DH and I are looking into mortgages and a big fat down-payment. As such, this is my last shopping trip for a long time. (Except for dresses for weddings. Because I need those, duh.)

Hit up the J.Crew outlet and found all the headbands on crazy sale. I got most of these for $4 a piece and one for a dollar! I thought the madras one was my favorite but now it's the wide black and white cameo print. I wore it with a soft pink sweater, black pencil skirt, and pearls. Adorable!

I also love love love the jade green linen cable-knit cardigan. The perfect weight for the office and then out for drinks with the office folks. DH also gave me permission to buy a new (bigger) beach bag. Now that we have the 7' Whim beach towels (pictured below) we needed a bigger bag to accommodate their bulk. Took this madras bag to Mission Beach on Sunday while DH was surfing and it held: 2 Whim towels, 2 bottles of sunscreen, DH's large sandles, a Nalgene, a novel, 2 magazines, and our waterproof "pouch" that holds keys, wallets, phones, etc. All in all, I LOVE this bag.

*whispers* But is it wrong to still want the LL Bean lobster tote?
